West Bengal government has just announced a massive initiative to alleviate the financial burden of its employees and pensioners, with a significant milestone in place for March 2026.

The West Bengal State Government has officially released that due to their compliance with the guidelines set by the Finance Department, dearness allowance (DA) arrears will be distributed starting from March 2026. This announcement is anticipated to bring much-needed relief to millions of state employees and retirees throughout the state.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee shared this news with fellow citizens across her major social media platforms, reaffirming that their government’s commitment to its people’s promises.

The DA arrears are associated with the Revision of Pay and Allowances (ROPA) 2009 policy. It was introduced to revise pay scales of state employees and ensure they remain competitive against inflation. If there is a delay in DA payments, it hinders their disposable income, primarily affecting pensioners' standard of living.

Employees of various affiliated institutions such as aided institutions, Panchayat (Local Administration) bodies, and Municipal Corporations would see relief at the end of next year with this announcement. Notably, even state employees who were fighting for overdue payments in the court system will now see some respite.

The Finance Department stipulates that eligible employees and pensioners would start receiving their arrears from March 2026 based on specific guidelines already laid down by them. These installments will be distributed over two phases, with the first payment due in March followed by the second in September, ensuring timely relief.

Interestingly, Mamata Banerjee also revealed plans for a salary hike for priests and muezzins as part of her announcement on Sunday evening, showing how comprehensive this initiative extends across various sectors within the community.
