The intense weather on Wednesday morning hit the Keyi Panyor district, leading to the inundation of low-lying areas and damaging at least 18 residential units. Amidst the chaos, three individuals have been reported missing near the Neepco project colony in the Yazali circle.
Emergency Response and Rescue Operations
The situation escalated when an under-construction retaining wall collapsed, allowing floodwaters to breach residential zones. In response to the crisis, Dani Sulu, the state disaster management secretary, confirmed that administrative officials, including the additional deputy commissioner and the deputy superintendent of police, have been dispatched to manage assessment and rescue coordination. Specialized personnel from the SDRF are already on the ground, while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is moving toward the site to provide critical assistance.
Local authorities have mobilized all available resources, including reserve personnel and ex-servicemen, to bolster emergency operations. As a preventative measure, the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (Neepco) has initiated the release of water from the Ranganadi dam, while power generation at the facility has been temporarily halted to ensure safety.
