Tragedy struck in Siddipet district and Hyderabad this past Sunday as a series of road accidents resulted in the loss of five lives and left several others injured. These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges regarding road safety and traffic regulation enforcement in the region.

In a particularly distressing event occurring in Duddeda village, Siddipet, a vehicle moving at high speed claimed three lives. Local authorities from the Siddipet III Town police station reported that the motorist swerved abruptly while attempting to bypass Kandugula Radha, a 50-year-old woman struggling with mental health issues who was navigating the road. Instead, the vehicle collided with Kemmasaram Laxmi, aged 55, a daily wage laborer stationed outside her residence, and her 10-year-old granddaughter, Kemmasaram Sahaja.

The situation escalated when the driver, gripped by panic, accidentally engaged the accelerator rather than the braking system. This error caused the vehicle to strike the young girl and drag her for nearly 200 meters before it finally collided with a concrete pillar by the roadside. Sadly, all three individuals died due to their injuries. Following the accident, the deceased were transported to the local government hospital mortuary. A toxicology analysis confirmed the driver was not under the influence of alcohol, and a legal case has been formally registered under section 106(1) of the BNS.

Enforcement Drives and Substance Abuse Issues

To combat rising road accidents, law enforcement agencies across the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri commissionerate areas conducted intensive weekend enforcement operations. Police successfully identified and booked 458 motorists for operating vehicles while intoxicated. In Hyderabad alone, authorities apprehended 281 individuals, including a mix of two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and four-wheeler drivers. Significant blood alcohol concentrations were recorded, with seven offenders exceeding 300 mg/100 ml.

Beyond traffic violations, local authorities also addressed illicit activities. The Madhapur police, collaborating with the Kukatpally special operations team, effectively disrupted a drug distribution network based in an apartment located in Chandra Naik Thanda. During the operation, officers apprehended 22-year-old Dhanekula Tharun Teja, a native of Vijayawada, finding him in possession of illegal narcotics, including 15 grams of MDMA and 382 grams of OG Kush ganja. Multiple mobile devices and drug consumption materials were also seized. While Teja is currently in custody, investigators are actively pursuing two identified suppliers, Karthik and Pruthvi, who remain at large. The raid also uncovered eight young individuals, identified as job seekers, who were allegedly using these prohibited substances on the premises.
