Farming Registrations Stalled: Millions Risk Missing Kisan Samman Nidhi Benefits

Highlights

  • - Over 62,000 farmers in Banda district not yet registered
  • - Deadline for farmer registry closing soon to avoid benefit loss
  • - Discrepancies with Aadhaar cards and land records causing delays
  • - Potential suspension of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi disbursements if registration missed

More than 250,000 farmers in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh are at risk of missing out on crucial government benefits. The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme could be suspended for many who fail to complete their farmer registry within the upcoming days.

Why a Timely Farmer Registration Is Vital

The government is currently working on creating a comprehensive Farmer Registry. However, for numerous farmers, registering remains an unattainable goal. Only 75% of farmers have been able to access benefits so far in five tehsils of the Banda district.

The delay is primarily due to discrepancies between names on Aadhaar cards and land records (Khatoni) for some farmers, and online challenges accessing land records for 211 villages. These issues have slowed down the registration process considerably.

In September last year, the government made it mandatory to complete this registry to enable transparent data compilation by the Revenue Department's Land Records Wing. Despite this, nearly a quarter of farmers in Banda district still haven't registered.

Deadline Looms: Farmers are advised to finish their registration within two days; failing which, they will miss out on benefits from April and may also face suspension of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi disbursements. More than 62,000 farmers in Banda remain unregistered.

Immediate Action Required

The deputy director of agriculture for Banda, Abhay Yadav, highlighted the urgency. Every farmer who fails to meet this deadline risks missing essential government benefits. Farmers in 188,708 tehsils have completed their records already, while another 62,682 are outstanding.

A report by the Agriculture Department revealed that unless action is taken soon, numerous farmers will find themselves ineligible for a range of benefits, including PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and other government schemes.
