In a significant political development, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, the Vijayapura-based legislator who was previously expelled from the BJP, has officially announced his support for the party candidate in the upcoming Karnataka Legislative Council elections. Scheduled for June 18, the election has drawn attention following this public declaration from the Bijapur City MLA.
The announcement regarding the Karnataka Legislative Council elections was formally communicated through a letter addressed to the party’s national president, Nitin Nabin. Despite his status as an expelled member, Yatnal emphasized that his dedication to the party's core ideology and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains entirely steadfast. He asserted that his decision is rooted in his commitment to upholding the organization's principles.
Political Alignment and Party Ideology
In his letter, which was shared on social media, the Bijapur City MLA clarified that his choice to back the official BJP nominee, Lingaraj Patil, is a fulfillment of his obligation to the party workers who supported his own electoral victory. He described Lingaraj Patil as a diligent grassroots worker whose rise within the organization deserves recognition and support. Yatnal argued that this move is consistent with his long-term dedication to strengthening the party's presence in North Karnataka and Kalyana Karnataka.
The legislator also took the opportunity to reiterate his ongoing concerns regarding the internal dynamics of the party's state unit. Yatnal stated that his criticism has been directed at what he identifies as the rise of dynastic influences and the concentration of authority within a singular political family. He contended that these issues, along with what he termed as “adjustment politics,” have hindered the organization's potential and caused frustration among veteran leaders and ground-level contributors.
Call for Organizational Assessment
Reflecting on his political journey, which spans back to the early 1980s, the legislator highlighted the collective sacrifices made by thousands of workers to establish the party's footprint in the region. He expressed a hope that the central leadership would initiate an impartial review of the current organizational landscape in Karnataka. According to Yatnal, such an assessment is essential for restoring the confidence of the workforce and ensuring the party remains competitive in future political contests. He underscored that his vote in the Karnataka Legislative Council elections is a gesture aimed at reinforcing party unity rather than an act influenced by personal factions or grievances.
