EPFO Eases PF Transfer Process for International Workers

Highlights

  • EPFO introduces simplified procedures for transferring PF and pension funds
  • Simplified Forms 15CA and 15CB forms now facilitate smoother transfers
  • Foreign bank accounts can be verified using utility documents such as bank statements or passbooks
  • Monthly transaction records reconciliation ensures timely disbursement of funds

The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has introduced new regulations designed to make the transfer of Provident Fund (PF) and pension funds smoother for foreign workers. This new initiative is applicable across countries that have a Social Security Agreement with India.

Previously, complex processes and delays often hindered both employees and employers in transferring their PF and pension funds. EPFO has streamlined these procedures by making Forms 15CA and 15CB forms easier to manage, reducing paperwork required for transfers. Verification of foreign bank accounts can now be done through utility documents like bank statements or passbooks.

EPFO will also handle tax-related tasks in collaboration with a chartered accountant, and all transaction records will be stored and reconciled on a monthly basis. This makes the process less burdensome for both employees and companies, ensuring timely and efficient fund transfers upon completion of work contracts.

The introduction of these new regulations aims to simplify the PF transfer procedure for foreign workers who are currently working abroad. In contrast, there has been ongoing discussion about increasing the pension under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPFO), but no concrete solutions have been announced by the government yet.
