DMK MLAs Walk Out After CM Vijay Denies Horse Trading Allegations
DMK MLAs walked out of the Tamil Nadu Assembly following a confrontational address by CM Vijay. The Chief Minister rejected claims of horse trading, defended his alliance partners' autonomy, and criticized the previous administration for its handling of law and order and drug issues.

In a heated session within the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday, a significant political standoff unfolded as legislators from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) staged a walkout. The protest was triggered by comments made by Chief Minister Vijay, who targeted the opposition while addressing the House regarding post-poll alliances and governance.
CM Vijay Faces Opposition Protests Over Alleged Horse Trading
During the session, Chief Minister Vijay firmly dismissed accusations of political malpractice, specifically addressing claims of horse trading within his post-poll alliance. The DMK had previously accused the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) of engaging in unethical practices to secure support from other political entities. However, the Chief Minister maintained that parties such as the CPI(M) and the Indian Union Muslim League independently decided to align with the ruling camp, rather than being coerced or bribed.
The House experienced repeated disruptions as the DMK legislators engaged in sloganeering, leading Speaker JCD Prabhakar and members of the ruling TVK to repeatedly urge the opposition to allow the Chief Minister to complete his address. CM Vijay utilized his speech, delivered during the Motion of Thanks to the Governor's Address, to counter what he described as the opposition's contradictory and blame-oriented political narrative.
Addressing Law, Order, and Past Governance
Beyond the political debates, the Chief Minister pivoted to core administrative concerns. He vowed that his administration would prioritize the maintenance of law and order, explicitly stating that crimes against women would not be tolerated. Furthermore, CM Vijay addressed the ongoing drug menace, promising strict legal action against those involved. He seized the opportunity to critique the former government led by M.K. Stalin, highlighting the previous administration's delay in appointing a Director General of Police (DGP).
\"Drug abuse increased over the years. Who was responsible then? The answer lies with their own conscience,\" CM Vijay remarked, contrasting his government's swift administrative actions with the tenure of his predecessors. He also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to transparency, asserting that the government would aggressively pursue corruption cases against anyone found guilty, regardless of their status. As the session remained tense, Speaker JCD Prabhakar attempted to restore order by promising the Opposition Leader an opportunity to respond once the Chief Minister had concluded his formal address to the assembly.
