Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh): In a statement issued on Sunday, BJP state vice-president Gudise Devanand clarified that Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation benefits do not extend to individuals who have converted from Hinduism to other religions. Emphasizing his position on this issue, Devanand stated that only those who continue to be recognized as Scheduled Castes under constitutional provisions are eligible for these benefits.

He warned against misleading claims by certain political parties, which he believes are attempting to gain electoral advantage by creating false hope among Dalit Christians.

Dalit Christian Community's Future in Political Arena Under Scrutiny

Speaking exclusively from Vijayawada, the BJP leader criticized attempts by other parties to exploit sensitive social issues for political gains. Gudise Devanand urged citizens and politicians alike to respect legal and judicial frameworks and avoid spreading misinformation that could further divide communities.

"It is our duty to uphold the rule of law," said Gudise, adding that every effort must be made towards safeguarding social harmony and peace."

Gudise Devanand's remarks come at a time when the political discourse around Dalit Christians' status is intensifying. Some sections advocate for recognizing them as Scheduled Castes to enable access to reserved benefits under affirmative action policies.
