  • The former Indian cricketer emphasized the positive impact of support from his teammates on Abhishek's performance.

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir labeled Indian opener Abhishek Sharma as a slogger, but former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin quickly stepped in to defend him. After seeing a video of Amir's comments, Ashwin took to his YouTube channel to speak about Abhishek's skills.

Speaking about Abhishek's batting, Ashwin expressed his admiration for the player, stating, 'You can say anything about his game, but Abhishek is definitely not a slogger. He has an extraordinary bat swing. His mentor, Yuvraj Singh, is known for his batting skills, and Abhishek's bat swing is better than his.',”

Ashwin continued, ‘I have observed that whenever Abhishek plays a shot, it often goes far. Many might mistakenly categorize Abhishek as a slogger, but he displays an aggressive attitude, which can sometimes work against him.' Abhishek, who played for Team India, has been away from the national team due to a stomach issue, missed a World Cup match, and scored just 15 runs in the group stage.

Despite the criticism, Ashwin highlighted that Abhishek's half-century with 26 balls against Zimbabwe was his second fastest half-century. Abhishek explained his approach in the recent encounter, saying, 'I did not intend to bat slowly deliberately. I tried to spend as much time as possible on the pitch after a few balls, as I could only play 10 to 12 balls in the entire tournament.' Abhishek's teammate's support was crucial to his performance, as Ashwin commended them, 'Everyone took such good care of me. It always feels good to contribute to the team. Everyone understood my situation, and they provided me with necessary support. '
