CMC Proposes PM SVANidhi Street Food Hubs at Malkam Cheruvu in Hyderabad

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) is actively developing a comprehensive proposal to establish specialized street food hubs under the PM SVANidhi scheme. This forward-thinking project is targeted for implementation at Malkam Cheruvu, aiming to create a centralized, hygienic, and sustainable environment for local food vendors and the public alike.

During a recent meeting held at the CMC head office, key officials including Commissioner G. Srijana discussed the strategic planning of these hubs with representatives from the Union urban affairs ministry, specifically Anil Prakash, and Jayesh Kumar from the Centre of Excellence in Vijayawada. The initiative is designed to provide high-quality, affordable dining options that cater to diverse demographics, including students, workers, and autorickshaw drivers.

Enhancing Sustainability and Hygiene in Street Food Hubs

A primary objective of the PM SVANidhi scheme integration at Malkam Cheruvu is to enforce strict hygiene standards while promoting eco-friendly practices. The proposed design emphasizes a "net zero" approach, incorporating solar panels for energy efficiency and utilizing sustainable materials like stone, bamboo, and recycled granite for infrastructure. Furthermore, the plan includes sophisticated waste-management systems, such as converting biodegradable food waste into biogas to maintain environmental cleanliness.

The facilities are expected to feature modern amenities, including automated smart toilets, high-standard drinking water access, and specialized washing stations. To ensure food safety, the CMC intends to monitor the vendors through a robust "hygienic index." Beyond the physical infrastructure, the administration is considering the inclusion of Self-Help Group (SHG) women in the ongoing operation and maintenance of these hubs, which would provide vital livelihood support to the community.

To ensure the long-term viability and popularity of these Malkam Cheruvu hubs, the CMC is planning extensive promotional efforts. This includes collaborations with influencers, sports personalities, and celebrities to raise public awareness. Additionally, the venue is envisioned as a cultural focal point, with plans for weekly events showcasing art, dance, music, and diverse regional cuisines. Discussions are also underway regarding potential dedicated bus services to improve accessibility for visitors and integrate these hubs into local tourist itineraries.
