Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will release the results of its Class 10 examination in May, marking a departure from their usual late summer schedule.

The CBSE typically holds one board examination during the academic year. For Class 10 students in 2026, a second board examination—the ‘second chance’ exam—will be conducted in May to potentially improve student scores in up to three subjects.

One of the most significant updates this year is that students will not receive their passing certificates immediately after the first board examination. Instead, they will have to wait until the completion of the second board examination to obtain a passing certificate. This new policy ensures that every effort aimed at improving student performances has a final measure.

The main examination results for Class 10 students are anticipated to be declared in May. Following the official declaration, students can access their mark sheets online by logging into cbse.gov.in using their Roll Number, School ID, Centre Code, and Admit Card details.

The CBSE has also announced a new system to streamline the process of declaring passing certificates. Students who had previously taken part in the Class 10 board examination will no longer receive certificate notifications immediately upon completion of the main exam. Instead, their DigiLocker accounts will be updated with the final mark sheets and passing status only after the second board examination concludes.

A recent notification highlighted that students are permitted to appear for the ‘second chance’ exams provided they have successfully completed at least three subjects in the initial board examination. Students who missed out on more than three subjects will not be eligible for this additional examination. All selected candidates must register through their respective schools, and upon a successful completion of the second board exam, students can expect to receive their certificates in due course.

To facilitate these changes, all students are advised to check the CBSE website periodically for the latest news, updates, and notifications as they pertain directly to their academic progress. The comprehensive guidelines for filling out forms for the ‘second chance’ examinations—including deadlines for submission of candidate lists and payment details—can be found here on the official website, cbse.gov.in.
