The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stepped up its preparation protocols ahead of the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled to kick off on March 28, 2026. The BCCI's new regulations highlight a series of measures aimed at ensuring discipline and adherence to strict standards among players.

BCCI's New Rules for IPL 2026

One notable change is the prohibition of 'open net' practice sessions. Each team now has exclusive access to a limited number of designated practice nets, reducing any chance of conflicting schedules.

The BCCI also mandates that players must arrive at the stadium by designated team buses on practice days and prohibits family members from entering the dressing room. Access is restricted to authorized staff only.

Players' Behavior Guideline:

To maintain a high level of decorum, the BCCI has ordered that players are not allowed to hit balls towards LED display boards or sit directly in front of them during practice sessions. This ensures a safe and professional training environment for all teams.

Wearing appropriate attire is also crucial; those holding the Orange Cap or Purple Cap must wear these respective caps for at least two overs, while floppy caps, sleeveless jerseys, and flip-flops are banned in post-match presentations to maintain a uniform look.

Health Protocols:

No medical tests will be conducted on the main playing square during matches. Should violations occur, players face both warning and penalty stages based on BCCI guidelines.

The introduction of a support staff limit to 12 members ensures efficient management while every member must present an accreditation card for verification purposes.

Jersey Number Changes:

Players wishing to change their jersey numbers are required to inform the BCCI at least 24 hours before the match, ensuring smooth scheduling and logistics for the teams.

These updated rules underscore the BCCI's commitment to maintaining a robust competitive environment in IPL 2026. Players and fans alike will appreciate these new protocols as they align with modern cricket standards and enhance the overall experience of the tournament.
