Authorities in Ballari have successfully dismantled a major vehicle theft ring following the arrest of a serial offender. The intensive police operation led to the recovery of 41 stolen motorcycles, valued at approximately Rs 20.5 lakh, which had been taken from various locations across the region.

The investigation began after a specific stolen bike complaint was filed in Siruguppa on June 2. As detectives dug deeper into the case, they uncovered a sophisticated pattern of criminal activity. Ballari SP Suman D. Pennekar confirmed that the suspect, a 56-year-old auto-rickshaw driver named Siddareddy—also known as "Splendor" Siddareddy due to his specific focus on the popular model—was apprehended in connection with the thefts.

Details of the Theft Operation and Recovery

The stolen bike cases spanned several districts, including Ballari, Chitradurga, and Vijayanagara. Of the 41 motorcycles seized, 16 were traced to Ballari, 21 to Chitradurga, and 4 to Vijayanagara. The suspect reportedly targeted motorcycles parked in high-traffic public areas during daylight hours.

His modus operandi involved using duplicate keys to start the vehicles. Once he had stolen a motorcycle, he would remove the original registration plates. In a calculated effort to conceal his tracks, the accused would photograph other motorcycles’ registration numbers while on the road. Using these details, he allegedly applied for duplicate registration documents through KarnatakaOne by falsely claiming the original paperwork was lost. By attaching new, fraudulent number plates to the stolen bikes, he was able to pass them off as legitimate second-hand vehicles to unsuspecting customers.

Police Investigation and Conclusion

The breakthrough was made possible by a specialized team from the Siruguppa police, working under the guidance of senior district officers. The use of technical analysis played a crucial role in linking the various thefts to a single perpetrator and uncovering the illegal documentation process. Following his arrest, Siddareddy has been remanded to judicial custody as the legal process moves forward.

This case highlights the importance of rigorous verification when purchasing second-hand vehicles, particularly in areas where such serial thefts occur. The recovery of these 41 motorcycles serves as a major victory for local law enforcement, who continue to work toward ensuring vehicle safety and property protection for residents across the district. The authorities urge citizens to report any suspicious activity regarding vehicle documentation or unauthorized sales to prevent such organized crimes in the future.
