A severe heatwave continues to affect several parts of the north coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh, with temperatures soaring between 40 degrees Celsius and 45 degrees Celsius in various regions. This extended period of extreme heat is expected to worsen by Friday, as a trough from Vidarbha through Tamil Nadu brings scattered thunderstorms and lightning to some areas.

Heatwave Conditions Widespread

As of Wednesday, severe heatwave conditions were forecast in 85 mandals, with 19 mandals in Vizianagaram district, 14 in Parvathipuram Manyam, and 11 in Srikakulam facing the harshest temperatures. Another 67 mandals are expected to experience heatwave conditions on Friday.

Recorded Temperatures

The highest temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Nandanamarella in Markapuram district, with other hotspots including Gudur and Pittalavanipalem. These temperature surges pose a significant health risk to elderly persons, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and those suffering from heart issues.

As the heatwave conditions intensify, APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain advises people to remain cautious, especially during peak hours when temperatures are at their highest. He emphasizes the importance of drinking plenty of fluids such as lemon water, buttermilk, and coconut water while avoiding exposure under trees or electric poles.
