VIJAYAWADA, India - At the India-Russia Business Forum held during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Andhra Pradesh's IT and education ministry minister N. Lokesh highlighted the state's potential for collaboration with Russian entities in sectors such as space, technology, and energy.
Andhra Pradesh's Quest for Russian Collaboration
The pitch by Lokesh emphasized the strategic relationship between India and Russia, pointing to historical collaborations like the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project. He proposed that Andhra could play a pivotal role in achieving the bilateral trade goal of $100 billion by 2030 set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin.
Minister Lokesh underscored the state's readiness to explore emerging opportunities, including space economics, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, drones, aerospace, naval systems, and advanced manufacturing. He specifically emphasized plans for the Tirupati Space City, a hub envisioned for satellite manufacturing, launch vehicle assembly, avionics production, and deep-tech innovation.
Furthermore, Andhra Pradesh offers favorable investment conditions such as its 1,053-km coastline with operational ports, industrial land availability, reliable power infrastructure, and fast-track project execution. According to Lokesh, "We are known for our speed of doing business."
A Look at Andhra's Industrial Landscape
The ongoing Indo-Russian partnership includes initiatives like the RUSAL-backed Pioneer Alumina Project in Anakapalli and Rosneft-supported Nayara Energy. Lokesh also referenced India's first satellite, Aryabhata, launched aboard a Soviet rocket in 1975, indicating Andhra's potential to contribute to next-generation cooperation on space programs from its home base Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
The minister encouraged Russian businesses, technology partners, propulsion firms, and satellite integrators to participate. He portrayed Andhra Pradesh not only as a traditional industrial hub but also as a strategic partner for innovation and growth in the new economy.
