The state of Andhra Pradesh has officially reported a significant 14.1 per cent decline in its overall crime rate over the preceding two years. This positive shift is largely attributed to the current coalition government’s strategic emphasis on preventative policing, the integration of advanced technology in surveillance, and comprehensive administrative overhauls.
Minister for Home Affairs and Disaster Management, Vangalapudi Anitha, formally addressed these developments during a press conference held at the State Secretariat in Amaravati. She highlighted that the administration, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has implemented robust reforms across multiple critical sectors. These include enhanced measures for women’s safety, strengthened cybercrime prevention frameworks, vigorous anti-drug operations, and modernized disaster management and prison administration systems.
Technology-Driven Crime Prevention and Women's Safety
A central pillar of this success is the government’s shift toward a proactive stance on law enforcement. By utilizing CCTV surveillance, drone technology, and sophisticated artificial intelligence-based analytics, law enforcement agencies are now prioritizing the prevention of offenses before they materialize. This digital transformation has been instrumental in securing public spaces across Andhra Pradesh.
In terms of enhancing women's safety, the government has bolstered district-level security mechanisms and established dedicated protection units. The Shakti App has emerged as a vital tool in this effort, successfully processing over 11.15 lakh emergency SOS calls, with authorities consistently providing rapid assistance to those in distress. Furthermore, the Operation Muskaan initiative has achieved notable success by reuniting 8,396 missing children, women, and elderly citizens with their families. Specialized investigation teams have also been deployed to handle POCSO cases with increased forensic speed and comprehensive victim-support services.
Cyber Security and Narcotics Enforcement
The state has also taken a firm stand against online fraud and illegal substance trafficking. The introduction of dedicated cyber war rooms, in tandem with active collaboration between financial institutions, telecom operators, and the 1930 cyber helpline, has successfully safeguarded nearly ₹247 crore from digital fraudsters. Simultaneously, the specialized EAGLE unit has intensified efforts against narcotics networks. Operations have resulted in the registration of 56,674 drug-related cases, with legal proceedings initiated against 2,366 individuals and assets valued at over ₹4 crore seized.
Additionally, disaster preparedness has seen significant upgrades, with 26 NDRF teams and 22 SDRF teams now equipped with advanced early warning systems. The administration has also bolstered its workforce by recruiting over 6,000 police personnel and providing promotions to 505 gazetted officers. These ongoing reforms, coupled with a 97.47 per cent efficiency rate in emergency response times, demonstrate a firm commitment to maintaining safety and order throughout the state.
