Andhra Pradesh Launches Major Power Infrastructure Projects to Enhance Grid Stability

Highlights

  • Rs 6000 crore investment in Andhra Pradesh's energy sector
  • Launch of substations, roads, and health clinics in West Godavari district
  • Free solar panels for SC and ST households under PM Surya Ghar scheme
  • Commitment to avoid electricity tariff hikes by the government

Andhra Pradesh is witnessing significant progress in energy infrastructure, with a massive investment of Rs 6,000 crore being directed towards substations across the state. Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar announced these ambitious upgrades aimed at ensuring uninterrupted and high-quality electricity supply to both urban and rural areas.

Energy Infrastructure Projects in West Godavari

The initiatives kick-started with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for several development projects in the West Godavari district. Notable among these were:

  • A newly constructed Gram Panchayat building at Nattarameswaram village, Penumantra mandal, costing Rs 40 lakh.
  • An Ayushman Arogya Mandir village health clinic built for Rs 20.80 lakh.
  • CC roads and drainage systems at Gaduvu village, constructed for Rs 30 lakh.
  • A road from Nauduru centre to Brahmana Cheruvu costing `2.50 crore.

In addition, the initiative included solar rooftop projects in SC and ST colonies, a new 50 MVA power transformer at the 132/33 KV substation in Penugonda, and a WBM road from Vadali to National Highway-16, costing Rs 50 lakh in Achanta constituency.

Ravi Kumar highlighted the government's commitment to improving service quality by avoiding any hike in electricity tariffs for two years. He also underscored the importance of technology-driven solutions like toll-free numbers to address consumer grievances promptly and efficiently.

Minister BS Varma, while addressing the issues, noted that electricity demand is on the rise across India, requiring more substations to cater to increasing domestic and commercial consumption. He emphasized that West Godavari needs additional infrastructure due to its growing energy requirement.

The government's efforts align with Prime Minister's Surya Ghar scheme, which will provide free solar power panels for SC and ST households, offering subsidies to BC families alongside an added financial assistance of Rs 20,000. These measures are part of a broader strategy to promote renewable energy adoption.

Achanta MLA Pithani Satyanarayana highlighted the need for additional condensers and recommended that these be considered by the energy minister. He urged residents to embrace solar energy, given its rising demand.
