This ambitious Godavari clean-up initiative is being fast-tracked in preparation for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu-2027, a significant religious event that draws countless devotees to the river banks.
Strategic Initiatives for Godavari Clean-up
M. Prabhakara Rao, the Public Health Engineer-in-Chief, conducted a comprehensive site inspection this past Saturday to oversee the project's progress. Accompanied by engineers from the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation, Rao visited several critical zones, including Katheru and Dowleswaram. These areas were specifically chosen for review as they are primary points where sewage discharge currently impacts the river's health. The focus of the visit was to assess the technical viability of completely intercepting and diverting untreated wastewater away from the sacred water body.
During the review, officials provided status updates on major infrastructure projects designed to mitigate pollution. A key component of this effort is the 50 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located at Hukumpeta, which is currently nearing its final stages of construction. The operational completion of this facility is viewed as a cornerstone for the broader Godavari clean-up mission.
Expediting Infrastructure and Project Reporting
Prabhakara Rao issued clear directives to the department engineers to fast-track all remaining construction and operational tasks. The objective is to provide a clean, hygienic, and safe environment for the millions of devotees expected to participate in the Godavari Pushkaralu-2027. In addition to current projects, officials have been instructed to prepare and submit a comprehensive detailed project report. This report is expected to outline permanent infrastructural solutions to prevent future instances of river pollution, ensuring long-term ecological health.
The inspection included a team of high-ranking officials tasked with the successful execution of these environmental goals. Present during the proceedings were Superintending Engineer Rita, Executive Engineer Madar Shah Ali, Superintending Engineer (Public Health) Ratnakar Reddy, and Executive Engineer Seshagiri Rao. Together, these teams are working to coordinate the technical, structural, and administrative aspects of the river rejuvenation plan, emphasizing a systematic approach to protecting the state's vital water resources before the anticipated 2027 gathering.
