The individual, identified as Chandramalla Vamsi, reportedly took his own life by jumping from a bridge into the Godavari River. The discovery of his body on Saturday morning followed an extensive and arduous search operation conducted by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
Allegations of Workplace Harassment
The family of Chandramalla Vamsi, who was originally from Srirampur in the East Godavari district, has come forward with grave allegations concerning the events leading up to his untimely death. According to his father, the constable had been enduring persistent harassment from a female colleague within the police department. It is alleged that this individual had been pressuring Vamsi into marriage and threatening him with professional repercussions, including the potential loss of his job, should he refuse to comply with her demands.
Reports indicate that the matter had escalated to the point where a formal complaint was lodged against Vamsi at the Women's Police Station in Rajamahendravaram. Departmental officials reportedly held multiple counseling sessions with him regarding these ongoing tensions. The most recent counseling session reportedly occurred on Thursday, June 18. Shortly after this interaction, Vamsi contacted his father before taking the extreme step of jumping into the Godavari River.
Investigation into the Constable's Death
Upon receiving information from the grieving family, local authorities promptly responded to the scene, where they discovered Vamsi’s motorcycle and footwear left on the bridge. This discovery served as a critical lead for the SDRF teams, who subsequently intensified their search efforts along the river. Following the recovery of his body, the remains were transported to the Government Hospital in Rajamahendravaram to undergo a post-mortem examination.
