Andhra Pradesh has officially become the first state in India to grant free, statewide access to the professional design platform Canva for Education. This significant milestone aims to provide government school students, educators, and officials within the education department with advanced digital tools, fostering a tech-forward learning environment across the state.
Announced on Saturday by Education Minister Nara Lokesh, the initiative underscores the government's commitment to equipping students in public institutions with world-class digital resources. By leveraging these modern design capabilities, the state seeks to bridge the digital divide, ensuring learners have opportunities comparable to their global counterparts.
Enhancing Digital Literacy with Canva
The strategic partnership involves collaboration between the state's School Education Department, Samagra Shiksha, and Canva. This program is set to benefit countless students and teachers, effectively positioning Andhra Pradesh as a prominent leader in technology-enabled education and human resource development. Through Canva for Education, students gain access to sophisticated tools for crafting presentations, infographics, dynamic videos, and various project-based learning assets.
The initiative is designed to cultivate essential 21st-century skills, including digital literacy, creative thinking, effective communication, and advanced problem-solving abilities. Officials intend to integrate the platform with existing digital infrastructure, such as the LEAP (Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh) app, Google Workspace, and Chromebooks currently utilized in classrooms, ensuring a cohesive and intuitive user experience.
Empowering Future Innovators
A structured, multi-phase rollout is planned, covering onboarding, comprehensive training for educators via a Training of Trainers (ToT) model, and full-scale implementation. Furthermore, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is developing curriculum-aligned template libraries in both Telugu and English to support foundational literacy and numeracy goals. The program also emphasizes the responsible application of artificial intelligence tools within academic settings.
Minister Nara Lokesh expressed that the primary objective is to nurture a generation of creators, innovators, and global problem-solvers rather than mere consumers of technology. He emphasized that the future belongs to those who possess the confidence to utilize technology creatively and communicate effectively. With built-in privacy safeguards and teacher-controlled safety features, the platform ensures a secure digital environment for students. The official Memorandum of Understanding was formalized on June 18 at Vidya Bhavan in Mangalagiri, witnessed by key education department leaders and representatives from Canva.
