Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, leading a high-level task force on Northeast tourism, will present their vision for regional development during this significant gathering.
The NEC comprises various task forces including those dealing with youth, infrastructure, and trade, aiming to deliberate on issues critical to the region's growth. During his presentation, Sangma will discuss ways to strengthen tourism, a key sector that spans all northeastern states. According to Sangma, he expects diverse consultations on major sectors, encouraging coordination among states.
Comprehensive Vision for Northeast Development
The task force report will cover various aspects such as the potential of individual states within the tourism sector and emphasize the benefits of packaging the entire region as a cohesive tourist destination. Additionally, state-specific weaknesses like communication infrastructure, trained manpower, and financial resources will be addressed.
Meghalaya, in particular, has seen robust growth in its tourism industry, with notable success stories expected to feature prominently in Sangma's presentation. Other states' tourism potentials will also be highlighted to facilitate replication of successful models across the region.
The plenary session is expected to foster collaboration among union ministries, state governments, and top officials from Meghalaya to other northeastern states, promoting a coordinated approach to regional development.
Post the NEC plenary session on June 4, Union Health Minister JP Nadda will visit Shillong on June 5. Subsequently, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled for a later visit in this month.
