Residents living near the existing Adilabad aerodrome are expressing significant anxiety regarding a proposed Adilabad airport land plan. The community has raised concerns over reports of expanded land acquisition requirements, which have sparked confusion and widespread panic among local villagers and families inhabiting surrounding colonies.

Growing Concerns Over Land Acquisition

Farmers who own agricultural land in several affected localities, specifically Anukunta, Kachkanti, Ankoli, Landasangi, and Tantoli, have reported a sense of uncertainty. The primary issue stems from a lack of clarity regarding exactly which plots have been identified for the expansion project. While there was an initial government plan via GO No. 73 to acquire 700 acres alongside the 360 acres already under the control of the Indian Air Force, reports now suggest the total requirement has surged to 1,860 acres.

Payal Shankar, the local MLA, has provided additional details, suggesting that the state administration is eyeing an extra 400 acres for runway extensions and enhanced security infrastructure. According to his statement, 80 acres are slated for immediate transfer to the Airports Authority of India. Furthermore, the state government has reportedly committed to a budget of Rs 340 crore for relocating high-tension electrical towers and an additional Rs 600 crore for general infrastructure development. Despite these figures, residents remain deeply unsettled by the lack of official documentation.

Political Disputes and Need for Clarity

The situation has inevitably become a point of political friction. Former minister Jogu Ramanna has openly criticized the MLA, alleging that the circulating information is unconfirmed and deliberately designed to cause distress among the local population. He emphasized that no finalized Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been officially published in the gazette to validate these expansion plans.

Similarly, Naresh Jadhav, president of the Adilabad District Congress Committee, argued that the project has become unnecessarily politicized. He stressed that the general public is currently suffering from a lack of authenticated information, which is fueling rumors. Local residents, such as Rajeshwar from Ankoli, have echoed these sentiments, formally requesting that the government authorities step in to provide transparent updates. The community is calling for an official explanation to end the ongoing speculation and panic surrounding the Adilabad airport land plan.
