Authorities in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri have maintained a firm zero-tolerance stance against drunk driving, resulting in 990 motorists being booked during recent enforcement operations. These intensive weekend crackdowns aim to bolster public safety by identifying individuals operating vehicles while intoxicated, with several offenders recording blood alcohol levels exceeding 300 mg/100 ml.
Enforcement Drives and Road Safety Measures
The Hyderabad traffic police reported the highest number of citations, processing 394 cases during drives held on June 26 and 27. This total included 326 two-wheeler riders, 38 individuals operating four-wheelers, and 30 three-wheeler drivers. Simultaneously, the Cyberabad division apprehended 300 offenders, while the Malkajgiri traffic police registered 296 cases over the week spanning June 21 to 27.
Officials have confirmed that all individuals caught during these drunk driving checks will face court proceedings. Law enforcement agencies issued a stern warning regarding the severe legal consequences of such behavior. Motorists involved in fatal accidents due to impaired driving will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This charge, pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, can lead to a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment along with substantial monetary fines.
Related Incidents and Safety Concerns
The commitment to road safety comes amid a series of concerning incidents in the region. In a separate criminal matter, Chaitanyapuri police booked a 32-year-old traffic Home Guard, identified as Venkatesh, for stalking and criminal intimidation. The suspect allegedly threatened to circulate private photographs of a woman after she ended their relationship.
Furthermore, tragic road accidents continue to highlight the necessity for caution. Two individuals, Kasireddy Devender Reddy and Depa Saritha, lost their lives in a multi-vehicle collision on National Highway-65 at Gundrampally after a vehicle suffered a tyre burst. In another unfortunate event in Mancherial district, an Intermediate student named Sai Susheel died when his car rammed into a stationary lorry near Indaram Crossroads.
Traffic officials reiterate that these enforcement operations will continue across the three commissionerates. By curbing drunk driving and strictly enforcing traffic rules, authorities hope to reduce the frequency of fatal accidents and ensure safer roads for all commuters. The public is strongly advised to adhere to safety guidelines and avoid operating any vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
