Law enforcement authorities in Bihar have confirmed the apprehension of at least 30 individuals following reported irregularities during the recent NEET-UG re-examination. This major crackdown comes amidst heightened scrutiny surrounding the national medical entrance testing process, as officials work to maintain the integrity of the examination.
According to Sudhanshu Kumar, the ADG (Law and Order), a significant portion of those detained includes staff members who were stationed at various exam centers. These 18 individuals are alleged to have bypassed mandatory biometric verification protocols and maintained illicit associations with both dummy candidates and external middlemen, thereby compromising the security of the test.
Investigation into Examination Malpractice
The situation escalated following investigations led by the Lakhisarai police, who successfully identified and arrested a group consisting of nine impersonators, one genuine candidate, and two additional associates. It is understood that the primary objective of these impersonators was to sit for the NEET-UG re-examination in place of the officially registered candidates, a move intended to manipulate the outcome of the high-stakes entrance test.
To address these fraudulent activities, legal proceedings have been initiated with the registration of two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) at the Kiul and Kavaiyya police stations. The authorities are currently probing the extent of the network involved in these coordinated efforts to bypass established testing regulations.
The NEET-UG re-examination was conducted across Bihar this past Sunday under strict surveillance and high-security measures. The necessity for a repeat exam arose after the initial undergraduate medical entrance test, originally held in early May, was officially cancelled in response to widespread allegations regarding a question paper leak.
Ensuring the fairness of such a critical examination remains a top priority for education officials and law enforcement agencies. The ongoing investigation is expected to shed more light on the depth of these irregularities. The state administration continues to emphasize its commitment to transparency in the medical entrance process, urging candidates and the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent practices. As the legal process moves forward, further updates are anticipated regarding the network behind these attempts to undermine the NEET-UG re-examination.
