Kerala Police thwarted an alleged attempt to abduct a person and snatch his gold and cash at Karipur airport near Malappuram, arresting 13 suspects. Acting on a tip-off, the police launched an operation and apprehended the gang from the airport premises around 10 pm on Sunday evening, officials stated.
The gang allegedly planned to ambush Subair as he landed from abroad with the intention of robbing him. Among those arrested were natives from Kannur, Malappuram, Kozhikode districts in Kerala and Kodagu district in Karnataka. Examination of confiscated mobile phones by investigators hinted at a wider conspiracy involving more members who may have fled realizing police presence.
Local reports mentioned prior incidents of gold smuggling nabbed near the airport. According to police, they are not only investigating the dacoity case but also checking if Subair was transporting smuggled gold on his personage. In response to these suspicions, Karipur police registered a case and the accused will soon be produced before a court for remand proceedings.
